So Monday night we give her cupcake to her (3rd one since her challenge) and about 15 minutes later she says her tounge and mouth hurt. We are immediately alert and paying close attention to her (while trying not to alarm her). She gets quiet and we watch her for another 20 minutes at which point she just starts crying and doesn't want to talk to me. We give her Benadryl and while she continued to complain she was alright.
It was an immediate downer. I felt like all was too good to be true and this would be a huge set back. I talked to the doctors yesterday and they brought me back up (we have amazing drs.). Apparently complaints of tounge and mouth pain are common in baked milk patients and this should go away as she begins to tolerate more baked milk. We're currently at half her original dose, back up to her original dose in a few days and well on our way to baked cheese and milk. They also said they have not had a patient go through this tolerizing process and NOT make it to regular milk. I can breathe a little more now. This will be hard work (who knew calculating amount of baked milk per serving would be so mathmatically challenging ha), but it's worth every second!
Maddy can also enjoy certain store bought items containing milk. Here she is enjoying her very first gold fish (original flavor for now) and snickerdoddle. Looks like Cash is plotting to steal that cookie.
