Country living part II

Saturday we had plans to go out to dads, what can I say, we can't get enough of the country living....

Matt ran out Saturday morning and picked up Dunkin Donuts for the girls.  This was the first time they'd ever had a donut.  Maddy was eating them and then goes "mommy, this isn't my kind of breakfast, can I please have cereal."

Daddy had to taste test:

Whitney spent the night and Maddy really wanted to go downstairs and wake her up.  Lucky Whit...look at the cutie she got to wake up to:

The girls snacked on their donuts a bit more:

Then we headed out to dads.  The girls were very excited when we showed up and there was a water table, sand box, and baby pool for them!  They spent the entire afternoon playing outside!

Matt cut down a tree and you can see Matt on the lawn mower and Maddy following behind on her Gator, it was adorable!!  We took her Gator out there so she could ride it for the day.

Camryn loves Kipper!! Look at her trying to give Kipper a tennis ball.
We ended the night with a campfire and look at Maddy, EXHAUSTED....

Pearly Whites

Friday Maddy had a dentist appointment.  I love her dentist!  They said she was doing a great job brushing.  She was such a good girl they gave her a Cinderella tattoo, a red ring to match her dress, she picked a Jake and the Neverland Pirates toothbrush and the dentist painted her nails glittery pink for her!  Here she is playing in the waiting room.

Friday afternoon we went to the park by Aunt Anna's house.

Dirt and Chocolate and The Darndest Things

The girls have had so much fun playing in the dirt left in a flower pot out front.  They think it's especially fun to fill my hand with dirt...whatever keeps them entertained right?!

Yesterday I made banana bread and used a Mickey Mouse cookie cutter to make shapes for the girls.  I then dipped them in chocolate and attempted to decorate them (from the picture below you can tell they ended up looking like cross-eyed bears, but I never claimed to have any artistic ability).  The girls still LOVED them so I was happy, and it was Paleo (Gluten/Grain Free) banana bread.

Camryn playing in the dirt again and pictures of her after enjoying her chocolate covered mickey bears :)

Now on to the darndest things...kids say the darndest things.  Maddy is no exception.  First off, she insists on picking her own PJ's out every night, that usually means she goes to sleep in a dress.  Last night it was a dress AND a tutu.

The other night Maddy asked if Matt would be home the next day, I told her no he had to go to work and she stopped and then said "but mommy he loves me"...yes, yes he does, but we still have bills to pay.

She is also on this marriage kick.  She gets an angry tone when I tell her I'm married to daddy, she normally responds with "no I'm married to daddy" or "no daddy can't be married to you, I'm married to you".  Just makes me laugh.

Maddy also doesn't like bugs, and the thing is, I don't think she can help it.  Almost daily she explains to me that she loves bugs now and bugs are her friend.  Then she sees one, even a tiny ant, and freaks out and starts crying.  It's like she's trying to convince herself she likes them and it's just not working.

Holy Hill

We ran a 5K at a vineyard on Saturday and boy did we underestimate what we were getting ourselves in to.

We packed the girls up to go meet all our friends at the vineyard for a fun filled day.

As we pulled in to the parking lot this is what we were looking up at....The 5K went down the hill, through the vineyard, with the last mile being a run up this hill.

We claimed our spot, where the babysitters :) and girls would hang out while we ran.

Our beautiful babysitters! (who had the right idea, go, drink wine, and DON'T torture yourself by running up the side of a mountain...very smart)

Family picture before the race.

The whole gang.

Camryn digging for snacks

The girls stole the show, dancing to the live band, they are all so adorable!
Beautiful!

I'm pretty sure this is me pretending to smile while Matt cheers me on at the very end.

Matt finished 5th in his age and 6th out of all males.  I finished under 30 minutes which I've very proud of considering the terrain (gravel, grass, mountain sides, ha).  We had such a great day...I think we may be crazy enough to do it again next year!

Mid-Week

I thought it was time for a mid-week update.  We haven't been doing too many exciting things this week but we've still been having a great week.  The weather is starting to warm up, we've been spending our evenings outside (Matt's spent a good chunk of time pressure washing our fence...I'm convinced he finds things to do, he's convinced they all must be done, God bless him), and we're revving up for another fun-filled weekend.

I can't believe how much Camryn has changed just this week.  Her personality and sense of humor are just blossoming.  You really start to feel like she gets what you're saying.  It's amazing and Maddy is so great with her, it just melts my heart, those two girls!

Not the best picture of Maddy but Camryn's headband just cracked me up in this picture. She didn't mind she had a flower covering half her eye!

Then Camryn picked up Cash's bone and kept trying to give it to Callie.  Callie and Camryn have a special bond.  Callie was not very fond of Maddy when Maddy was younger.  She loves her now, but was unsure of her when she was wobbly and unpredictable.  Camryn on the other hand, Callie has such a tolerance for her and is so sweet with her.  So anyways, Camryn kept trying to give her the bone, mind you Callie has no interest in bones, but Camryn just kept waving it in front of her, until Cash came up and claimed it.

Maddy put her little sister to work and had her push her around in the little Pooh car.  Those two crack me up!

All these pictures are half blurry....just goes to show you how much these girls move!

Last night when I put Maddy to bed she said "good night mommy, sweet drums".  Gosh do they have to grow up?!?!  I'm kinda liking these ages.

Country Living

Saturday afternoon we headed out to my dads house for a cookout.  The day started off chilly but by afternoon it was so nice out!

Maddy fell asleep on the car ride out to dads. We could probably count on 2 hands the number of times Maddy has slept in the car so I had to take a picture.

Zach came back from school for the night and played with the girls for hours.  He was probably as worn out as the girls were after Saturday night.

The girls ran around, played with bubbles and their new Cinderella dolls.

Look at my little rock star in her star glasses!

Camryn made a new friend, Kipper the cat.
Maddy and Camryn blowing bubbles (while daddy suffers from allergies in the background)

You'd think after a fun filled afternoon outside the girls would pass out as soon as we got in the car.  Not so much...Camryn probably fell asleep half way home and Maddy was up the entire ride home and for at least 45 minutes once we got home.  I'm not sure where our girls muster their energy from but it's pretty impressive!

Ribbon Run

Friday night my mom watched the girls while Matt and I went to a friends 30th birthday party. We had a lot of fun but headed home early since we had the Step Sisters Ribbon Run in Ashburn early Saturday morning.

Despite having a few beers the night before the run Saturday morning was great.  Matt got a new personal record for his 10K.  He finished number 20 with a time of 46:24.

Whitney and I ran together and Whit got her best 5K time.  Whit and I averaged 10:30 min/mile and finished with 32:24 time.

Relaxing after the race

Pretty sure this is Matt facebooking about his new record time :)

After the race we headed home and spent some time outside before naps.

Weekends End

Sundays are always bittersweet.  It's nice to have one last day of the weekend but at the same time you're so exhausted from your weekend and not looking forward to Monday.

We had a great day yesterday.  Matt worked outside for a bit and my mom, Anna, Zach, Aunt Lisa, and Shane were all over at one point.  We had a great family filled weekend!

The girls had fun coloring and playing with rice and beans (a favorite activity in our house) out on the deck.

(note: that's marker on Maddys arm :)

Summertime?

First let's talk weather.  Since I'm an expert on the matter (yeah right).  Some info about yesterday:

"Washington, D.C. has reached at least 90 degrees so far today as measured at National Airport, the city’s official observing station. That breaks the old record high for the date of 89 in 1922."

  • It was also the first 90-degree day in April since 2010
  • It was the 11th time on record that D.C. has reached 90+ this early in the year.

  • So...what happened to spring?  It was snowing 2 weeks ago and now we're having record breaking heat.

Camryn celebrated by stripping in the sandbox:

We found a patch of shade, which happened to be the sandbox, and had fun out back until we'd just had enough of the heat.  The girls are troopers but man was it hot!

Maddy danced and the girls ate popsicles with Keren.

This morning Camryn was watching Sesame Street while we waited for Keren to arrive.
